The Montgomery Store Bluegrass Jam takes place Every Friday evening year round 7-9pm.
For more than fourteen years musicians from all over the region, some driving an hour to two hours to attend, gather at the old 1840 general store in Gold Hill every Friday evening to swap tunes, compare instruments, and entertain those who love to listen to Traditional Bluegrass and Old Time music.
The Montgomery Store is also home base for The North Carolina Bluegrass Association of which Vivian Hopkins, Proprietor, is currently NC Bluegrass Association President.
During Spring and Summer so many musicians show up that the music often spreads out onto the wooden sidewalks and into the little village creating a festival-like atmosphere around the shops. In Fall and Winter the store’s old Pot-bellied wood stove is fired up and keeps the place toasty. Folks love the nostalgic charm of the old general store which was one of the first restoration efforts in the nineteenth century gold mining boom town.
